Your Personal Value System

When I work with clients around their personal value system, we look at the 10 most common values, and we work together to make sure these values reflect firstly, how you treat yourself, and secondly, what you expect from yourself before looking at others.

The top ten are:

Integrity. Humour. Education. Physical Fitness. Kindness/compassion.
Family, Nature/Outdoors, Health, Honesty, Love. But there are lots more.
There is no question, if your values aren’t clear to you, and your boundaries aren’t based on your values, how can your customers, your colleagues, even your family possibly know how to treat you, when you don’t know what’s important to you.

Look at the important areas of your life and ask yourself “is my life at this level working?”

Next, do that in your Personal, Business, Physical and Spiritual parts of your life. Remind yourself that at every moment you make a choice how you live your life and whether to live your life according to your values.

And talking of values. What ARE your values? Being aware of your values and using them as the guidelines for your life means being aware and willing to interrupt yourself when you are repeating inappropriate patterns of behaviour and/or reactions to people, conditions and things. So when you see or hear yourself behaving in ways that are not aligned with your values simply interrupt yourself in the middle of learned behaviour that doesn’t bring you what you want.
Because you boundaries – or lack of them – come directly from your values, write down your values …. do it now…….. and then ask yourself this question.
Do I have this – or do this – for myself. Do I treat myself with kindness? With integrity? Do I take care of myself? Am I totally honest with myself? Can I laugh at myself? Do I love myself?

You should be saying ‘yes’ when checking off your values towards yourself. That way you know, and others know what you stand for.

For instance, when your boss dumps things on your desk at the last minute, before a long weekend, instead of sitting and stewing about it, do you bring your values into play?

Is Integrity one of your values? Kindness? How do you handle that type of stress? Do you freak out?

Do you complain to your friends or partners and do or say nothing to your boss. Or do you plan how you’re going to bring it up next week so that it doesn’t happen again?

Write down your values. Explain each one in one or two lines and then imagine how each one looks. If honesty is one of your values, how does honesty look? Does it look like a person, or a shape or colour? Or is it an action of some kind? Then do that will all of your values.

When that is finished, find a quiet place, turn on some soothing music, preferably without vocals……and close your eyes. Follow your breath and count down to 20 with each out breath so that your mind, body and spirit relax.
Now imagine in front of you, on the floor, a large golden circle, and step into that circle…….allow yourself to feel the magic of that circle. Step into that circle. Now bring in your values, and line the inner rim of the circle with them, bring them in, one after the other, in all their shapes, colours and sizes, and let them take their place inside the golden circle with you. Now slowly, very slowly, make the circle smaller, until it just circles your feet and your values are surrounding you.

Breathe in the energy of your values and the circle, and feel the energy flowing through your body, so that you take on the energy of these values into every cell of your body, mind and spirit. Feel the golden circle sending light up through your feet and throughout your body, and out of the top of your head. The energies of your values move with the light. And finally connects to the universal energies out through the crown of your head. If you simply do this exercise two or three times a day for a minimum of 21 days you will feel as though you have been re-born! And others will notice the change in you. You will feel more energised and much more comfortable in your own skin.
Now you can begin to live the life of your dreams!!!

Stop Smoking with Hypnotherapy

As an ex smoker, I can completely relate to the challenges involved in giving up smoking and to the feelings of guilt, frustration and embarrassment of being a smoker, when you would really rather not be. It’s just not socially acceptable now days and as a women, the fear of developing the classic smokers face, puckered lines, grey complexion and dark circles was enough to enable me to find my motivation!

Fortunately, if you haven’t yet found the support you need to stop smoking forever, hypnotherapy can be an effective solution. Hypnotherapy Herts is a Hyoniotherapy practice based in Hertfordshire. In this article you can discover 5 of the ways in which Hypnotherapy Herts can help you stop smoking with ease and quickly.

1. A Free Consultation – Hypnotherapy Herts provides a free consultation to those who make the decision to use Hypnotherapy Hertfordshire to stop smoking. During this initial consultation motivation is assessed. This is a very important step in your commitment to stop smoking. A good hypnotherapist will not work with a person who is not really that motivated to make the change. If they do, they are wasting your time and money. Hypnotherapy Herts would help you to identify whether you feel things ‘must change now’.

2. Informal Change Techniques: Leverage
At Hypnotherapy Herts, a range of techniques are used to move ensure that you will be completely ready to stop smoking for good. One of the ways that this is done is via a process called getting leverage. This basically means helping the client to recognise and experience the impact of the problem behaviour, such as smoking, on themselves and those around them. It involves bombarding you with information about the impact of your smoking behaviour on your body and mind and the dangers of smoking will feel very real to you after this process. It will help you find your motivation and will identify those who are not motivated.

3. Informal Change Techniques: Setting Well-Formed Goals
NLP takes goals setting seriously and has developed criteria for goal setting that results in the goals being achievable and likely to be reached. Setting these types of goals involves you acting as if you have already achieved your goals to give up smoking. You will get to really visualise and begin to experience in your mind your life as a person who does not smoke. You will want to move towards this life after this process.

4. Formal Change Techniques – There are several formal change techniques, which are effective for helping you to stop smoking. The most appropriate technique will depend on your unique problem. Here are a few: 1) The Swish Technique can be used if you wish to replace a highly contextualised problem behaviour with a more positive behaviour. It works to eliminate behaviours that occur in specific situations after specific triggers. 2) Parts Integration is very useful at uncovering the positive intention of your smoking habit and dealing with incongruent behaviour and feelings. 3) Like To Dislike – This technique is based on information about how we code memories in our brain. We tend to code things we like in a different way to things we don’t like. So, its possible to recode your memory of smoking into something that you cant stand.

5) Hypnosis with positive suggestion. Of course, part of your stopping smoking treatment at Hypnotherapy Herts will involve you getting to sit back and relax whilst your unconscious mind does the learning! During this process you will be guided to a deep state of relaxation, whilst the therapist also directs your unconscious mind with suggestions and metaphors to stop smoking. You will also be supported to develop positive coping strategies. Acknowledge that your smoking habit has served a purpose in the past, in that it has likely been a method for coping. Hypnotherapy and NLP techniques (neuro linguistic programming) will enable you to develop positive coping strategies that serve you in the present and future.

Hypnotherapy Herts helps people to stop smoking in one session. In that one session you become a non-smoker and do not want to go back to being one. Free support is also offered for the following 6 months, so that you return for free support if you feel you need it. If you do return to smoking a free top of session is available. These are rarely required.

All You Need To Know About Hypnosis

There are many stories about hypnotherapy being dangerous, turning people into chickens, people not being able to wake up, and unscrupulous hypnotists exploiting their ‘vulnerable’ patients. However there are many people who are adamant that it has helped change their lives, helping them succeed in their goals. Millions of people swear that it has helped them with many issues such as weight loss, quitting smoking, other addictions, confidence, phobias, stress, success, IBS, and many more issues.

There is a large and growing tradition of hypnosis being used for therapeutic purposes, not just for entertainment. In fact therapeutic and entertainment hypnosis are two very different things. A clinical hypnotherapist does not aim to create the illusion of having people ‘under’ his control. Stage hypnotists do this with the clever use of pressure, showmanship, and choosing the correct participants.

Many people are missing out on this powerful yet safe therapeutic tool because they are too afraid to use it. I hope to dispel these fears by answering these common questions about hypnotherapy.

Can I be hypnotized?
Most people can go into a hypnotic trance. The only types of people that cannot be hypnotised are …
1. Those suffering from psychosis or a thought disorder
2. A person with a low IQ
3. A person does not want to be hypnotised. It is very easy to resist hypnosis (in all its forms) if you want to.

What is a hypnotic trance?
It is a normal and natural state that most of us experience several times a day. It commonly happens when people are driving. Have you ever driven somewhere and not really remembered the journey? It also often occurs when reading a book or watching TV. Sometimes you can be so absorbed in the book or TV programme that you are not consciously aware that someone is talking to you. Hypnosis is the focussing of the conscious attention in such a narrow corridor of influence. The conscious mind is so intensely focussed that other influences are not being critically analysed by the conscious mind. We still hear them, although we are not always aware. A good example of this is when you are in a place where there are several conversations going on at once. They may all sound like a mass of background noise. However if someone in one of those conversations mentions your name, you then consciously focus on that conversation. How did you know someone said your name? Your subconscious mind (which is far more powerful than your conscious mind) was listening to EVERY conversation AT THE SAME TIME! That is perhaps a reason why you can sometimes “just know” something. Your subconscious mind has absorbed it without you consciously being aware.

What does hypnosis feel like?
When in a trance you feel more mentally and physically relaxed. It is a very pleasant experience, and you can tell that you are still in control. You can still hear exactly what is going on around you, unless you choose to drift your attention away. You become aware that you can easily stand up, talk, or move whenever you want. A lot of people (me included) when they first experience a hypnotic trance move their fingers or hands in order to test whether they can move at will. Sometimes a patient can be a little difficult to wake up. This is not a sinister thing as it has been portrayed. No one has ever been stuck in trance. It is more a case that a patient just “can’t be bothered” to wake up as it feels so pleasant. However they soon become bored and will wake up pretty soon. One trick the old hypnosis pro’s use is to tell the patient that they are charging for the time. It’s amazing how quickly they then wake up!

Is hypnosis dangerous?
A hypnotic trance is actually a very natural state that almost everyone goes into several times per day. In 1955 the British Medical Association set up an inquiry which favourably reported hypnosis as a therapeutic tool. It even recommended that it should be taught at medical schools. Hypnosis was also approved by the Council of Mental Health of the American Medical Association in September of 1958 as a safe practice with no harmful side effects. Since then there has been acceleration in the establishment of hypnosis societies for doctors, dentists, and psychologists. No one has been seriously hurt with hypnosis.

Can I be made to do things against my will?
You could never be made to do anything against your will or contrary to your value system. If this was actually possible, would there not be criminals learning the art of hypnotherapy in order to hypnotise their bank managers to opening the vaults and handing over a large sum of cash?! In a trance, you would not unknowingly reveal your deepest secrets. You can even lie when in a trance, which is one reason why testimony in hypnosis is not permissible evidence in a court of law. It is only used by police to help with the investigation. A person will only act upon suggestions that serve them in some way or reinforce an expected behaviour, anything else their subconscious will just ignore. Most people develop these misperceptions from seeing or hearing about a Stage Hypnosis show. However they largely achieve their results from showmanship, selection of the more extrovert people, and peer pressure.

How long will it take before I notice a change?
In one session, you can expect to become more relaxed than you are right now. Most people do not relax enough, and some people never seem to relax! Being more relaxed can help most mental and physical problems that you may have. I have often had patients report back to me that people noticed that they seemed more relaxed after just one session. In the past I have significantly helped problems such as IBS, skin complaints, and addictions, simply by doing relaxation work.
Hypnosis can bridge the gap between your head and your heart, making your goals much more emotionally compelling, and therefore increasing your chances of permanent change. Depending upon the intensity and number of sessions, you will notice suggestions for the desired behavioural changes spontaneously popping into your conscious mind almost immediately.
Please keep an open mind when deciding if to use hypnotherapy. I have been a clinical hypnotherapist, trained by the London College of Clinical Hypnotherapy (LCCH), for several years. During this time I have witnessed many things that, quite frankly amaze me at times! I have helped so many people in so many ways, that I feel it would be such a shame for people to opt out simply due to unfounded fear and misinformation. Make sure you find a therapist that has received good training from a well respected body, such as the LCCH, and you will not be disappointed. It is not perfect. Hypnosis does not solve everything all the time. However it does help almost all of the time, and can create amazing changes some of the time. With a well qualified practitioner, you are pretty much guaranteed a comforting, relaxing, and enjoyable experience, as well as a shot at gaining very good ground towards your goals. I hope you are not missing out for the wrong reasons.

IBS Relief

Healing IBS with Hypnosis
By Dr. Georgina Cannon

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) also known as spastic colon or colitis affects 15 – 20% of the population – predominantly women.
The severity of IBS symptoms changes from person to person and from time to time. For some people it restricts their movements to such a degree that they have trouble making travel plans. For others, it’s a sporadic situation where the symptoms come and go, with no discernable reason, and for others, it’s a low lying, ongoing manageable but painful situation.
Whichever category you fall into, the basic result is the same. You live with pain and uncertainty, always being aware that at any time you may need to fine a toilet or washroom in a hurry.
Never mind what else is going on around you. The need to get to a washroom is urgent and immediate.
Interestingly enough, the causes of IBS are unknown, and the diagnosis is usually a diagnosis of exclusion, everything else is ruled out. While it’s not clear exactly what causes it, we do know that there are anatomical changes in the lining of the colon and to the nervous system of the colon.
You’ve probably tried diet management, which to some extent works for many people. You may have tried medication – but sometimes the side
effects are worse than the IBS.
But there is another way to manage or in some cases, eliminate the IBS altogether, and that’s with hypnosis. The evidence is overwhelming that IBS symptoms respond dramatically to a series of hypnosis treatments.
Hypnosis has been approved by the American Medical Association as a valid medical treatment since 1958 and over 20 years of solid scientific research has demonstrated hypnosis to be an effective, safe and inexpensive choice for IBS alleviation for 80-95% of clients. Dr. Diane Fugh Berman chair of the National Women’s Health Network in Washington DC has said that hypnosis should be the treatment of choice for IBS.
“It totally makes sense” explains Georgina Cannon, Director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre, “all body sensations are managed and recorded in the subconscious mind, so if you want to make change in the body, one of the best ways is through the subconscious mind with hypnosis.” Cannon went on to explain – “There are absolutely no side effects – except that you get better! The treatment is relaxing and enjoyable. And best of all, treatment often leads to improvement of other stress related problems – like teeth grinding or sleeplessness.”
The hypnosis treatment starts with the client bringing a physician’s letter to the Ontario Hypnosis Centre Clinic “We only work with a client on pain management with the approval of their doctor” Cannon explains. The number of sessions needed ranges from 7 to 10 “this enables our clients to develop their imagery skills, which will help them for the rest of their life. We start the process with a very thorough intake so that we understand how IBS affects that particular client. Then the mind-body training begins.”

What is Hypnosis?

What do Albert Einstein, Jackie Kennedy-Onassis, Henry Ford, and Mozart have in common? Give up? All have benifited from hypnosis to make positive changes in their lives.
Hypnosis can help you to better understand yourself. It can help you to change bad habits into good ones. It can help you turn your negative or sad feelings into positive or happy ones. It can help you to effortlessly focus on almost anything in your life that you would like to change, while leaving you unburdened by analytical or pessimistic thoughts.

Unfortunately, hypnosis and hypnotists have long been portrayed in a negative light by television, films, and other media. Most people are familiar with the image of hypnosis as a traveling stage show in which people are made to bark like dogs or act like chickens. We've been led to believe that, while under hypnosis people are unconscious and unaware of their surroundings. These and other misconceptions could not be further from the truth. A person of normal intelligence can only be hypnotized if he or she is willing to follow the hypnotist's instructions. The vast majority of hypnotists practice in offices not circus tents, and are deeply committed to helping people.

To understand how hypnosis works, we must first learn about how our mind works. In simple terms, our mind consists of two components: The conscious mind, and the subconscious mind. Our conscious, or logical, mind performs analytical duties, rationalizes, uses willpower in attempts to change personal habits, and serves as our short-term memory. The conscious mind also contains what is known as the critical factor, which operates automatically when you are using your conscious mind. The critical factor can be thought of as protecting the status quo of your beliefs and must be bypassed in order for you to accept any suggestion that conflicts with your existing beliefs.

The subconscious mind is where our brain deals with habits, emotions, long-term memory, and self preservation. It is the subconcious that the hypnotist focuses on. It is the part through which it is possible to bypass the critical factor entirely in order to open the door to positive change in your life. A good metaphor is to consider the subconscious as a hard drive in your computer which the hypnotist reprograms. When you have targeted a specific glitch, such as a bad habit, the hypnotist is able to guide you into a relaxed state where it is possible to reprogram your subconscious with positive suggestions that replace negative elements.

Our conscious mind finds it difficult to change bad habits. For example, when a person decides to try and quit smoking, he typically thinks he can accomplish this through willpower alone, however willpower simply initiates the desire to change and is usually unsuccessful at eliminating the problem. The subconscious mind is able to change bad habits by readily accepting positive suggestions. Therein lies the secret to the effectiveness of hypnosis. Through positive suggestion hypnosis changes your beliefs, attitudes, or behaviors which you would like to improve.

Some things that you can accomplish with the help of hypnosis are change your eating habits, stop smoking, conquer phobias, and improve athletic performance.

If hypnosis is going to work for you, it is crucial to understand that a doubtful or negative response to given suggestions leads to their rejection. On the other hand, if you really want the change and focus on the suggestion with a positive attitude, trusting that it works, the suggestion is accepted and positive change happens. Trusting and believing in hypnosis is the first step to a successful new you! For more information, visit www.performancehypno.com.

Hypnosis and The Mind

Fundamentals of the Mind
The human mind may be subdivided into three parts: the Unconscious, Subconscious and Conscious. These compare to a computer:

Unconscious - operating system
Subconscious = hard drive
Conscious = RAM

Each part has separate and distinct tasks. The Unconscious mind operates your automatic body systems such as the circulatory system, much as a computer’s operating system includes its basic functions. The Subconscious mind operates like a hard drive by storing files of all kinds, from a full memory bank of your past to your emotional spectrum, to its most vital task: protecting you at all costs. The Conscious mind is our everyday mind, making immediate day to day decisions like what to wear, eat, and drink. It is the gatekeeper, choosing what information is to be acted upon moment by moment. It’s the mind you’re reading this book with right now, and its tasks include comparing, reasoning, and explaining. These abilities are called the Critical Factor and are bypassed in hypnosis.

Importance of the Subconscious Mind

To update a file on your computer, you must open the original file and make the changes. In the human mind, original files are stored in the Subconscious. To gain access, we must reach the Subconscious directly, bypassing the Conscious mind. In other words, one way to gain positive changes in the present is to neutralize the negativity in the past. We do not change the memories, we upgrade how you feel about them.
This upgrading can only be accomplished in the Subconscious, for that is where memories are stored, and it can only be reached through bypass of the Conscious mind, and that can only be done through hypnosis.
Why? It’s what works. Hypnosis specifically sets the Conscious mind aside temporarily.

Your Mind Must Protect You; Good News, Bad News

All levels of your mind work to protect you as best they can at all times. And this especially applies to the Subconscious.
It must protect you at all costs, and to do so, it may even lie to you, or more to the point, to your Conscious mind. It may lie about you, about others, it may even lie to your hypnotist while you are in trance. It may hide memories from you. And much, much more. This is because once it accepts negative behaviors in the name of your safety, it hangs on to those behaviors. Some examples are:

•smoking anything
•being obese
•declining success
•biting your fingernails
•spending compulsively

You may well ask, how can compulsive spending possibly protect me? It distracts you. Misdirection is one highly effective way your Subconscious protects you by keeping a lid on overwhelming emotions. Ergo the addict.
You may well ask, how can declining to be successful possibly protect me? It limits you. Limiting exposure to risk is another way to protect you.
It is when such protective efforts do not meet your current needs that you desire change. Hypnosis sets aside the Conscious mind, makes changes via the Subconscious mind, and change is achieved.

How Hypnosis Upgrades Your Files
Hypnosis is able to change your perception of your memories, and thus of yourself. We do not change the events themselves, we upgrade how you feel about them, and thus your daily life is upgraded.
By accessing the original files stored in the Subconscious, you are able to see all of the reasons why your mind specifies your behaviors in the name of protecting you, and together we upgrade those behaviors since, typically, the need of that protection is gone. You are no longer in the middle of the event that had such an impact on you.
Your Conscious mind does not have complete access to your memory files; that is not its job. This is why merely talking about change is such an ineffective means of getting any. Talking happens in the Conscious mind. Change happens in the Subconscious.
And here’s the rub: the Subconscious outvotes the Conscious mind. It is far, far larger, stronger, and more powerful. This is why willpower fails so miserably for the dieter. Unless the Subconscious agrees to a healthy diet and a normalized body weight, your finest of intentions are short lived, having been overridden by the Subconscious mind.
Emotions are a function of, and are stored in, the Subconscious. When you have had an emotional reaction to danger, for example, real or imagined, those emotions are felt and stored in your Subconscious. Hypnosis accesses those stored emotions, upgrades your perception of them, and this results in changed behavior.
You must give yourself permission to make changes. You must want to change. You must want to enter into hypnosis. And this means not being afraid of hypnosis. So, let’s define what hypnosis is in several ways, as there is no single perfect way to phrase it.

What Hypnosis Is
•“Hypnosis is the bypass of the critical factor of the conscious mind combined with the establishment of selective thinking,” says the US Government.
•Hypnosis is a blend of physical relaxation and extreme mental alertness. Yes, I said extreme.
•Hypnosis is a state of focused concentration. This is why a few minutes of emotional expression in trance is worth hours in an alert state. Humans are so easily distracted, and the Conscious mind is forever making excuses for everything. In hypnosis, the conscious mind is set aside, and excuses are seen for what they are.
•Hypnosis is the state you enter into every time you watch a tv show you like, see a film you like, or sit down at the computer intending to only be there for 10 minutes... and suddenly it’s two hours later.
•Hypnosis also happens when humans fall in love, literally entranced.

What Hypnosis Is Not
•Hypnosis is not mind control.
•Hypnosis is not a royal proclamation.
•Hypnosis is not sleep. We use relaxation, not sleep, to enter hypnosis. You do not wake up from hypnosis, you emerge. And you already know exactly what emerging from hypnosis feels like! Remember the last time you went to the movies, loved the film, and at the end when the credits rolled, you suddenly “came to”? You just emerged from hypnosis. That’s exactly what it feels like, because that’s exactly what happened.
•Hypnosis is not being unconscious. You can hear everything that goes on around you during trance; you’re just not interested in it.
•Hypnosis is not relaxation. That’s just an optimal starting point.
•Hypnosis is not being drugged. However, one can easily mimic a drugged state in hypnosis, provided you have previously felt the effects of that drug. Your body remembers. This is useful for pain control.
•Hypnosis is not involuntary. Just as no one can make you enjoy a movie that fails to entrance you, no one can make you remain in hypnosis. I typically teach my clients self hypnosis on the very first session so that they know for certain that they can emerge whenever they like. Anyone can emerge from hypnosis instantly by making that their intention.

How Does It Actually Happen?
Hypnotists use methods we call techniques. These include Direct Suggestion, Regression To Cause, The Forgiveness Pyramid, Parts, The Spa of Your Inner Mind, The Recording Studio, Progression, and Higher Mind, among others.

The Last Word
The media uses hypnosis on you all the time. Aaaalllllllll the time. Advertisers have been known to employ hypnotists to assess the hypnotic potential of a given advertisement, and pay good money for it.
Every time you watch television and enjoy it, you go into a state of trance. Ditto listening to music, going to the movies, watching a DVD, hearing talk radio, reading a magazine, and so forth. When you don’t like a particular type of music, it is expressly because it fails to put you into the trance you listen to music for.
So here comes the big duh. Why should media have all the fun? Please visit your friendly neighborhood trance specialist and use hypnosis to further your own goals.

Ah, hypnosis. So easy you can do it with your eyes closed.

10 Steps to Gentle Change

Why ‘gentle’ change? Because change is disruptive – it takes planning, foresight and courage. But like anything else, if you follow a plan, it is easier, plus you start to recognize progress along the way as you accomplish each step in the plan.

Dr. Georgina Cannon, Director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre School and Clinic has worked with thousands of clients over the past 10 years to help them transform their lives into powerful, successful, joyful living. “The interesting part of change, or transformation is, “explains Dr. Cannon’ that you let go of the feeling of being a victim of uncontrollable circumstances. You choose to experience something that you CHOOSE for your life: A new emotion; a new pattern; a new skill”

Here is Dr. Georgina Cannon’s blue print for change:

1. Know what it is you want to change.
Do your belongings, attitudes, ideas, habits, emotions such as guilt or anger, commitments, career or relationship still fit you? Do they still suit who you are – and who you want to be in the future? Do they serve you well?

2. What exactly do you want to change?
When you have decided it is time to ‘lighten your load’ and get rid of some of the baggage you carry – the first step is to decide what it is you want to change. If there’s a whole raft of things begging for change, then choose just one to start with. And be very sure of what that one thing looks like.

3. How will your life change with this one change?
Write down what you want to change in a short sentence. Think about how it makes you feel when you think about the thing you want to change. Are you excited? Is there some fear? And can you imagine your life and how it will be with just this one change? Be realistic about the impact of this change, but most of all, be committed to making it happen.

4. Who and what will be affected by your change?
We don’t live in a vacuum. When we make change it affects other people and events around us. Many people don’t like change, so as you change you may find that some people start to resent your personal change work and try to undermine you. Ask someone who has made a lifestyle change around eating, and see what happened in their family! You need to make a very comprehensive list of who and what your change will affect

5. Have a support system.
Change takes courage – even the smallest changes are profound. You’ll need some support systems. Build a team around you that will support you emotionally and physically with your change. People who really have your well-being at heart and understand your courage and commitment. Make sure you let them know ahead of time what you will be doing differently, and how you need their support.

6. Time to dump the junk!
What are you going to get rid of to make room for the new you? Old thinking? Old attitudes? Old fights or arguments? Old clothes? Old habits? Old beliefs about who you are and how you are? (Shy? Accident prone? Not efficient? Not smart? Not musical?)
This is one way to do that. List all the stuff to let go – relax with your eyes closed and visualise a huge garbage bag and put everything you want to let go into that bag, including all of your thoughts and feelings about the stuff you’ve put in the bag, see it all there – tie a knot at the top of the bag, and kick it out to the far reaches of the universe. Watch it disappear beyond the stars. You’ll notice you feel much, much lighter!

7. Your new life!
Now it’s time to bring your new life, with the changes into fruition. Start by visualising what this new life will look like. Find a place to relax, close your eyes, and see yourself 3 months in the future, having achieved your goal. You are where you want to be, with the change complete. See yourself surrounded by people you know, love and admire, hear what they are saying to you, hear the laughter and conversation, feel the confidence that comes from being in charge of your life. Spend about 5 minutes there. Do this twice a day for 7 days. This is one way of putting the vision deeply into your subconscious mind so that you are pre-programmed for success.

8. Your Action Plan – or Blueprint
Write your goal, your action plan. Step by step. What you will do by when. Each step, how you will accomplish your goal. For instance, if your goal is to be more outgoing, maybe the first step is to talk to the cashier at the supermarket or gas station every time you go in. Ask them how they feel, talk about the weather – whatever. But make conversation with at least three people each day.

This action plan should have at least 7 steps to achieve your goal. Each step is an action – not a thought – and each step has a deadline.

9. Visualising working the plan.
Find somewhere comfortable to relax. Put on some soothing music, close your eyes and allow yourself to slowly visualise yourself working through the plan. Step by step. Notice how, at each step, you change. Notice what happens at each step. The support you receive. The different reactions you get with your new habit. The confidence you feel. See yourself reaching each deadline easily and comfortably and taking the action needed towards your goal. If you do this for at least 21 days you’ll find the whole process of change becomes easier and smoother as your subconscious mind aligns with your conscious mind to keep you intellectually and emotionally in balance for your change.

10. Take Action!
Take the first physical step towards your change. Follow the plan you set out. Use your support systems. Congratulate yourself each step of the way, and make sure you notice how much more confident you feel as you begin to recognise your power, the power of your mind.

Getting Beyond Stuck

In some parts of the world, a very simple method is employed to catch monkeys. A large heavy jar, with an opening just big enough for the monkey to squeeze a hand in, is baited with a banana. The monkey slips its hand into the bottle and grabs the banana. Then, holding tightly to the banana, it is unable to remove its hand from the jar. It never occurs to the monkey to let go of the banana, so it remains trapped. When stuck, most people are unable to let go of where they are and it never occurs to them to let go of the negative situation they are in. Like trying to move forward but chained to a fence.
“At least 50% of the people who come to my clinic are stuck with something in their life, and can’t get beyond it” says Dr. Georgina Cannon, Director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre. “They know they want to make change, but can’t see beyond where they are. They can’t move out of the hole they find themselves in. Whether their wish is to start a new career, change a stagnant or negative relationship, or move toward the trim, slim body they envision, they can’t find the way up and out of where they are to where they want to be. The trap they find themselves in is frequently grounded in one of two major paradigms.
Fear of being wrong or failing
Since childhood, we have learned to do what it takes to not be wrong. To please, or be approved of in some way or other. And that need to be approved of, can keep you static, in the mistaken belief that if you do nothing, you can’t be wrong. This fear holds you hostage so you perform below potential in order to remain comfortable.
Successful people don't have this stumbling block. They have worked through it. They feel free to make mistakes, to try many things. Some work and some don't. If something doesn't work, they simply try something else. They know that we only learn from mistakes! They know that a mistake is only about the action not about the person.
Fear of change:
Sometimes, people avoid promotions or change because they’re frightened of losing friends, or being considered ‘uppity’ by family. This happens when self esteem is very low, and there is a part of you that feels you don’t deserve success. You don’t deserve positive recognition. And if you leave behind everything you know, what then? Will this change guarantee that you’ll be happier? Will this new partner satisfy you better? Will moving to a new town guarantee success?
Of course, the answer is, not necessarily so. The intriguing thing about change is that wherever we go, there we are! So the most important thing is to change ourself first. Through hypnosis, or other therapy, increasing self esteem so that it would never occur to you that you won’t flourish with change.
So what to do?
What you’ve been doing up to now isn’t going to get you where you want to go, so something has to change. And that something is YOU.
Consider this. All of your thoughts, habits, actions and beliefs reside in your subconscious mind. 80% of what you will think and do today is what you thought and did yesterday. So if you want to change and move forward, you will have to change these thoughts and behaviours which will allow you to do this. Hypnosis is a simple, pragmatic tool which allows access to your subconscious mind to make these changes. A qualified hypnotherapist, who is trained in regression therapy, and NLP, will access the root of any diminishing or inhibiting emotions and thoughts and help you make the changes necessary to move forward.
