Getting Beyond Stuck

In some parts of the world, a very simple method is employed to catch monkeys. A large heavy jar, with an opening just big enough for the monkey to squeeze a hand in, is baited with a banana. The monkey slips its hand into the bottle and grabs the banana. Then, holding tightly to the banana, it is unable to remove its hand from the jar. It never occurs to the monkey to let go of the banana, so it remains trapped. When stuck, most people are unable to let go of where they are and it never occurs to them to let go of the negative situation they are in. Like trying to move forward but chained to a fence.
“At least 50% of the people who come to my clinic are stuck with something in their life, and can’t get beyond it” says Dr. Georgina Cannon, Director of the Ontario Hypnosis Centre. “They know they want to make change, but can’t see beyond where they are. They can’t move out of the hole they find themselves in. Whether their wish is to start a new career, change a stagnant or negative relationship, or move toward the trim, slim body they envision, they can’t find the way up and out of where they are to where they want to be. The trap they find themselves in is frequently grounded in one of two major paradigms.
Fear of being wrong or failing
Since childhood, we have learned to do what it takes to not be wrong. To please, or be approved of in some way or other. And that need to be approved of, can keep you static, in the mistaken belief that if you do nothing, you can’t be wrong. This fear holds you hostage so you perform below potential in order to remain comfortable.
Successful people don't have this stumbling block. They have worked through it. They feel free to make mistakes, to try many things. Some work and some don't. If something doesn't work, they simply try something else. They know that we only learn from mistakes! They know that a mistake is only about the action not about the person.
Fear of change:
Sometimes, people avoid promotions or change because they’re frightened of losing friends, or being considered ‘uppity’ by family. This happens when self esteem is very low, and there is a part of you that feels you don’t deserve success. You don’t deserve positive recognition. And if you leave behind everything you know, what then? Will this change guarantee that you’ll be happier? Will this new partner satisfy you better? Will moving to a new town guarantee success?
Of course, the answer is, not necessarily so. The intriguing thing about change is that wherever we go, there we are! So the most important thing is to change ourself first. Through hypnosis, or other therapy, increasing self esteem so that it would never occur to you that you won’t flourish with change.
So what to do?
What you’ve been doing up to now isn’t going to get you where you want to go, so something has to change. And that something is YOU.
Consider this. All of your thoughts, habits, actions and beliefs reside in your subconscious mind. 80% of what you will think and do today is what you thought and did yesterday. So if you want to change and move forward, you will have to change these thoughts and behaviours which will allow you to do this. Hypnosis is a simple, pragmatic tool which allows access to your subconscious mind to make these changes. A qualified hypnotherapist, who is trained in regression therapy, and NLP, will access the root of any diminishing or inhibiting emotions and thoughts and help you make the changes necessary to move forward.
